Travel | 3 Days in Schladming – Styria
Yesterday I finally got around to editing the last of my vacation photos. About five weeks after the actual vacation but hey, better late than never, right? After our trip to Mallorca, we managed to squezze in three more days in the styrian mountains. Our home away from home for these few days was the Falkensteiner hotel and SPA in Schaldming which, in my opinion, is definitely all it’s cracked up to be.
Thanks to social media and all kinds of people singing the hotel praises, I had pretty high expectations which, let’s face it, is rarely a good thing, but in the end they were definitely exceeded. The reception on Sunday could not have been nicer, and after the usual back and forth about breakfast- and dinner times, SPA options, hiking routes, etc. we were able to access our room, despite arriving hours before the usual check-in time. The whole hotel and especially the rooms exude such a warm and cozy vibe that you can’t help but feel instantly at home. Which is quite a feat considering the size of the hotel.
Since a massive storm rolled in a little while after our arrival in Schladming, we spent the first afternoon relaxing in the hotel's beautiful SPA area, watching the rain pour down outside.
Day two started with an extensive breakfast – I’m a sucker for a good breakfast buffet – before we made our way towards the town center to explore Schladming a bit. In the afternoon, after a mini-hike (Tauernblickrunde) we made our way back to the hotel an settled back in, to enjoy the sunshine by the pool for a bit.
Since we didn’t book a seat for the gondola in time (seriously… since when does one need to book a seat to go up a mountain?!), we didn’t get to go up to the Dachstein, instead we chose to drive up to the Planai, which was also a perfect ending for our trip. I mean, just look at that view!
All in all those three days were exactly what the doctor ordered and definitely made me want to take out my hiking boots more often. ?
